Get Plumper and Fuller Lips at Home
Lip fillers are all the rage. Here’s how you can get fuller, plumper lips without lip injections…
Kylie Jenner’s lips have taken the world by storm, encouraging women all over to plump up their pouts. Even though Kylie’s built an empire based on her signature look, she’s not the first celebrity to rock lovely, luscious lips. Angelina Jolie takes the cake, in our book. She’s well-known for her sultry, eye-catching pout. Full lips are attractive to anyone, and thanks to research we know this is biologically true, too. While women doesn’t seem to care as much about full lips, men certainly do.
Apparently, lips are key in determining whether someone is sexually attractive to other people. More or less, the bigger, the better! Bigger lips promote facial youthfulness, which is another reason they’re innately more attractive to men. Men are programmed to be attracted to signs a woman’s fertile, or she’s capable of reproduction! Full lips are an indicator of this, which is another reason why men appreciate a full pout among other things like wider hips. In the end, this proves “lips represent one of the most sensual aspects of a woman’s body”, as claimed by Dr. Geoff Beattie of Manchester University.
But really, why wouldn’t you want full, voluminous lips? They attract attention to your smile, which is one of the best things about you. Besides, it seems like the luscious lip trend is here to stay. There has to be a way to achieve the look without the surgery, lip fillers, or other man-made materials being introduced to your lips, right?
Fortunately, there’s more than one way to do this. What’s more? There’s more than one way to do this naturally, without the help of injections, surgery, or lip fillers; and we’re here to help. But first, it’s important to understand why lip fillers aren’t necessary. Let’s hear it from the current queen of lips: Kylie Jenner.
Kylie Talks About Lip Injections and Mouth Mistakes
Even though the beauty is known for her signature lips, she’s expressed she’s might have taken it just a bit too far. Two, almost three years ago, Kylie Jenner tried her first lip-plumping experience. However now? Her ‘Lip Kit’ and lip product collections are insanely popular; not to mention insanely effective. But, the star admitted the biggest beauty mistake she’s ever made is making her lips a little too large at one point. Sometimes, bigger isn’t always better.
After Kylie tried her first “cosmetic enhancement,” she started to feel the weight of the public opinion on her lips. “The [plastic surgery]rumors hurt my feelings to be honest and are kinda insulting.” Totally understandable! “I haven’t had plastic surgery,” Jenner says, posted in an interview from 2015. However, she did mention she did get lip fillers, explaining her lips have been a long-time insecurity. Kendall Jenner weighed in, letting her sister know she thought the fillers were a little much.
The star continues to enhance her pout, using poses and makeup to create a luscious lip look. However it seems like enhancement isn’t on the horizon. For now.
How Natural Treatments Can Help You Get Fuller and Plumper Lips at Home
So far, we know that lip fillers, plumpers, and treatments or cosmetic procedures work to make your lips full. But, trying do-it-yourself lip plumping techniques also works to make them luscious and bigger. How do they work, you ask? They work by irritating the lips. Hey, we understand this might sound unsafe, but as long as these recipes and natural lip plumpers aren’t over used and you don’t go overboard, a little irritation won’t hurt your lips. When skin is irritated (lips are skin!) it swells, which is what works to give your lips the plumped effect.
Mildly, moderation and gentle techniques will simply volumize your lip skin. Lip plumping ingredients encourage a vasodilating effect, which is to say your blood vessels widen up and blood flow to your lips in increased thanks to those ingredients. Blood is the reason our lips are on the pink to red spectrum, so this makes sense. More blood volume in your lips swells them, and makes them look more plump. Not to mention the increase in volume, either!
It’s understandable to have some doubt, but it’s OK to give it a try. Besides, different ingredients might work on different skin; you may just have to give a few different ones a try! You can always tweak these recipes and ingredients to work with your skin.
Prepare Your Lips Before You Begin to Make Them Plumper and Fuller
In order to get the best results you can, it’s essential to prep your lips for the upcoming treatment. A facial massage (something you can do yourself) is effective in helping blood flow move to your lips. It also helps tone your facial skin, encouraging a youthful look thanks to taught skin. You’ll begin to see lasting results with this preparation technique after at least 30 days, but the wait is certainly worth it. Try this for ten minutes a day to see results.
Also, you can tone your lips by doing certain exercises like smiling, whistling or blowing air through your lips as well as kissing. Before you know it, your lips will have more strength to keep them plump more often!
Using an oil, you can massage your lips, too. This helps stimulate blood flow, release stress, and fill in any fine lines that are beginning in your lips. Did you knwo your lips can actually get wrinkles, and they can decrease in volume and size during the aging process? This also helps both soften them, as well add shine.
Another preparation method to be sure to try is the process of exfoliation. Lush has a great exfoliating lip scrub, but of course you can make one at home. All you need is a little brown sugar and olive oil or coconut oil. Mix the two together, and go ahead and start slathering it on your lips with either your fingers, or a toothbrush. It’ll relieve them of dead skin, soften them, and bring a nice rosy color to your plump pout. By exfoliating your lips regularly, you increase blood flow to them which helps them stay voluminous regularly.
These Are Plumping and Volumizing Ingredients and Recipes You Can Try at Home
When you’re creating an at-home lip plumper, typically recipes will include an active ingredient mixed in among an oil or another base type of substance. Other base substances can include vitamin E, olive oil, coconut oil, or almond oil. Base substances can be solid, too. Solid bases include Vaseline, cocoa butter, coconut butter, or beeswax.
Many recipes include cinnamon oil, or cayenne powder. You can, however, use either one for very similar results! If you find one of the two active ingredients is too harsh for your skin, you can simply balance the amount you’re using to suit your skin’s sensitivity. One way to change the recipe for sensitive skin is to divide the amount of the active ingredient by two, and you can continue to build the volume of the active ingredient from there.
Here are other active ingredients you can try:
- Anise oil (think licorice)
- Clove oil
- Peppermint essential oil
- Wintergreen essential oil
- Black pepper
- Ginger oil, or even ginger powder
- Capsicum oil
Prepare for the tell-tale tingle! Also, pay attention to where you touch after applying one of these recipes. Your eyes are very sensitive, especially to ingredients like pepper.
