Summer Makeup Must Haves
The warm weather is on the horizon, don’t you want to freshen up your signature scent with something lighter? We’re thinking Mar Jacobs Cucumber. It’s crisp, fresh, and feels like a breath of cool air on a hot day. We’re also pretty partical to Rodeo by Byredo. It’s a unisex scent, but it’s more country fair than back yard bonfire.
Protective Hair Care
We’ve talked about the best kinds of sun protection for your hair before. It’s important now more than ever though! Alterna Haircare created a Bamboo Beach Summer Sunshine SPray Protective Shine Veil. What a mouthful, right? But this product tries to help your hair prevent becoming frizzy, dehydrated, distressed, or sun damaged. It even protects your hair color against fading, while infusing your strands with tropical goodness.
Sea Salt Spray
Our favorite sea salt sprays are truly a tossup. Alterna’s Bamboo Beach Summer Ocean Waves spray is a texurizing sea salt spray that yes, smells amazing. Just like a mango coconut frozen drink you’d order by the pool. It’s great to pair with other Alterna products for that sexy just left the beach hair. It won’t dry your hair, and it won’t weigh it down.
Another one of our favorites is the Mai Tai Spritzer from Drybar. Surprise! One spritz goes a long way, meaning that you’ll have this little bottle around for quite a while. It’s a musky but somehow fresh scent, sure to compliment that deep tan you’ll get on the beach. Not to mention it’s cruelty free and also safe for colored hair.
BB Cream or Tinted Moisturizer
Ditch the full coverage foundation for the summer. Swap it out for a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer! We’re loving Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer. Not only is it broad spectrum SPF coverage, but it’s also lightweight. You can buff it into your skin for flawless coverage and a dewy glow.
Maybellilne’s Dream Fresh BB is a fantastic choice, too. It’s loaded with titanium dioxide sunscreen for broad spectrum coverage at SPF 30. It’s super moisturizing, available at drugstores, and it’s less than $10.00. We’re in! Besides, it’s light coverage that helps mask minor skin issues but it can be layered in coverage.
Trade in your pencil liner for a gel liner. NYX recently put out “Cosmic Gel Liners” and man oh man are they incredible. Cosmic Gel Liner is more or less out of this world, with an intense color and a pop of sparkle. Infinite star is a must, especially since you should try some bold color during the summer! These liners will stay put, but they’re easy to blend while they’re still wet.
The sun will zap moisture from your skin, so instead of using your regular cleanser try a cleansing oil. They’ll help you get your skin hydrated, and even take makeup off too. Right now, we’re loving Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil. Load it up, lather it on, and rinse for a cleansed but moisturized face.
The same principle goes for your lips, as your face. They can actually get burnt by the sun! After lots of sun exposure, you’ll find even your lips begin to have wrinkles, so it’s best to hydrate and protect them. Lip oils are all the rage right now, and for good reason. Milani has an incredible Moisture Lock Oil-Infused Lip Treatment, available in a variety of colors and fragrances.
We’re partial to the Yes to Coconut Cooling Lip Oil. What better way to treat your lips after a day in the sun?
Lip Balm with SPF
Nivea’s A Kiss of Protection is exactly what you need to throw in your beach or pool bag for the summer. It has SPF 30, and it’ll last for hours, regardless of how hot it is that day. Your lips will definitely thank you.
So, we hear you want a cheek tint that can double as lip color. BECCA Cosmetics created the “Beach Tint” which is one of the most amazing creations we’ve ever seen. We’re into the color Lychee, but there are other hues if berry isn’t your thing.
