Will 2-In-1 Shampoo and Conditioner Hybrids Really Work?
The idea of getting rid of one of the steps in your shower routine is exciting. Washing and conditioning your hair takes time, and having clean hair feels fantastic but it takes time! Having the two products in one sounds tempting, especially since it can cut time out when we’re rushing out the door to work in the morning. Is this super convenient solution too good to be true?
To find out, we consulted the experts.
Hair care experts note that 2-in-1 shampoos and conditioners serve two purposes. While shampoo works to get rid of the dirt and gunk of your hair and scrub your scalp, conditioner will help smooth and protect your hair. Putting the two together might not have the desired results since they do different things.
But 2-in-1 shampoos and conditioners have come a long way. From stripping your hair to nourishing it, 2-in-1 shampoos include an ingredient called Polyquaternium-10. Now, there are options for “co-washes” or conditioner shampoos. These products are closer to actual conditioners, so while they might be good for your hair and great for protecting against the damage of daily shampoo, they can also create buildup on your scalp.
Experts suggest the best use for 2-in-1 products is while you’re traveling. They might get you through your trip, but you’ll need some serious conditioning once you’re home.

Double Standard Cleansing and Conditioning Foam by Drybar
Everyone knows how we feel about Drybar products. This foam is no exception; it’s just as incredible as it is innovative. While this shouldn’t be your every day fix, Double Standard foam soaks up residue from other products, it hydrates the hair and scalp, and it leaves your hair softer than you can imagine. Try this every few washes to revitalize your scalp.
TRESemme Cleanse and Replenish 2-in-1 Shampoo
TRESemme does a good job with this product. It’s affordable, vitamin-packed, and gives you a bang for your buck. We like it because the huge bottle will last you a long time, especially if you don’t use it every day. The fragrance is fresh and light, so it won’t over power you or scent your hair like a fruit basket.
Herbal Essences Body Envy 2-in-1
Talking about a fruit basket brings Herbal Essences to mind. Their rich, fruity fragrances are paired with not only affordability, but efficiency. Not to mention Body Envy will keep your scalp free of buildup and boost your hair’s volume. We’ve found this product really conditions your hair without stripping it. No complaints here!
Aussie Moist 2-in-1 Shampoo
Like all Aussie brand products, this one also smells fruity but light. It’s in the budget friendly price range, too. With aloe and jojoba oil Aussie’s 2-in-1 contender won’t remove a drop of moisture from you hair. The downside to this? It might be heavy for some of you fine-haired ladies.
L’Oreal Paris EverCrème Conditioning Cleanser
Available at drugstores, Target, and beauty stores alike, L’Oreal’s co-wash is a fantastic fix for fragile hair. It helps strengthen strands while nourishing them, and it helps bring out your hair’s natural shine. Our resident platinum-haired color-junkie tried this co-wash out and reported it didn’t leave a hint of residue on her scalp. This product gets a thumbs up from us.
What do you think? Would you add one of these 2-in-1 products to your regimen?
